In today’s fast paced, ever-changing digital environment, media and design are at the forefront of information delivery. This course aims to give students a broad exposure and understanding of the skills used in the Digital Media and Design industries.
Digital Media and Design is a full year course for Year 10 students. This course can then lead onto further studies in media and/or design subjects.
The course covers areas (but is not limited to);
filming digital video
visual effects for filmmaking
designing and preparing digital content for social media
digital environments
graphic design
user experience design
motion graphics and title sequences.
In this course there is a strong focus of ’learning by doing’. Student learning will take place in a studio-like environment with assigned tasks simulating industry-based work practices. Students learn by immersing themselves in relevant methods and practices, whilst theoretical components analyse the Digital Media and Design contexts. Students will develop design-thinking strategies used in creating clever, aesthetic outcomes whilst also developing their awareness of media forms and narratives. Employing creative and experimental approaches, students work across all aspects of pre-production, production and post-production. Project work comprises of both team and individual tasks.
This course aims to adapt to new and relevant innovations in digital technology, whilst providing a foundation in the Adobe Creative Suite of software. Students interested in this subject should demonstrate a desire for visual design aesthetics and passion for digital video. Students should have aptitude for (or want to learn) technical computer skills and a willingness to embrace digital software used within the media and design fields.
Assessment throughout the year will include a combination of practical learning tasks and projects, annotated visual diaries, written analysis tasks and examinations.
