Year 10 Photography is an in-depth study of digital and analogue photographic techniques and approaches. The course is primarily practical with a component of research and investigation relating to Photographers who may influence the creative practice of each student. This course aims to expand student knowledge of photographic subject matter and genres as well as allowing students to explore subject matter of personal interest.
Students do not need to have previous experience to study this subject. Completion of this subject prepares students for VCE Units 1 to 4 Art (Photography).
Students are encouraged to explore the medium in a creative way which expands their understanding of the expressive potential through image making. Emphasis is on students engaging in the creative practice in a thoughtful and active way which brings deeper thinking in the understandings of the way that Art is a tool for expressing thoughts and communicating ideas.
The Semester long Year 10 Photography course consists of numerous three week assessment tasks. No prior knowledge or experience in Photography or Photoshop is required. Each task is designed to challenge students to undertake exploration, mind mapping, experimentation refining, reflection and evaluation of their imagery and creative process. Students are encouraged to share their outcomes with one another, which includes formal discussions and exhibiting work in the Guild Gallery. Each task is designed to allow personal exploration and interpretation by students.
Within each task, students are challenged to explore the way that other Photographers have interpreted similar themes. Tasks may vary from year to year, but the following are examples of topics explored recently:

Theory Component
Students will undertake one major research task related to their course work. The Task will explore and compare the work of two Photographers whose work aligns with a genre style of their choice.
Students learn to apply and use the Analytical Frameworks in the analysis of visual images to understand how meanings and messages are communicated.
Each of the practical tasks will be assessed against a Rubric.
Students will complete the one theory task, with two components.
Students will be required to complete all practical work in a visual diary.
A written exam, assessing all components of the course.
