Students participate in Library classes run by Teacher-Librarians in collaboration with their English teachers one lesson per fortnight.
At this critical time in a student's development, the importance of continuing to read widely for enjoyment and skill reinforcement is often lost. The Library program in Year 9 is designed to encourage students to value reading, and see its importance in their overall development.
To encourage wider reading, students are introduced to a variety of genres including graphic novels, books to movies, dystopian, satire, and biographies. Students develop a reading routine through sustained reading time.
Recognising the importance of peer recommendations in shaping students' willingness to read, in this semester, students work with a partner reading the same books and sharing their reviews with their classmates.
In Year 9, no formal assessment occurs; however, a reading log may be maintained to monitor student reading.
