In undertaking these units, students are expected to be able to apply techniques, routines and processes involving arithmetic, lists, tables, and diagrams. Along with algebraic manipulation of equations and graphs, with the use of technology. The use of numerical, graphical, symbolic, financial and statistical functionality of technology (CAS calculator) will be emphasised.

Assessment

The award of satisfactory completion is based on whether the student has demonstrated the set of outcomes specified. Teachers use a variety of learning activities and assessment tasks to provide a range of opportunities for students to demonstrate these. The award of grades and scores for the course is based on three components:

  • School-assessed coursework (34% of study score)
  • Unit 3: Assessment of Core - Data Analysis Application Task based (40% of SAC total), and a Problem-solving Task based on Recursion and Financial Maths (20% of SAC total).
  • Unit 4: Assessment of Modules - Problem-solving Task on each of the modules (20% of SAC total each).
  • External assessment (66% of study score)

Examination 1: This examination comprises multiple-choice questions to assess students’ knowledge of both Core and Module areas of study. The examination will be of one and a half hours duration and students may use an approved CAS calculator, a scientific calculator and one bound reference which may be brought into the examination. (33% of study score)

Examination 2: This examination comprises written response questions to solve extended application problems in a range of contexts covering both Core and Module areas of study. The examination will be of one and a half hours duration and students may use an approved CAS calculator, a scientific calculator and one bound reference which may be brought into the examination. (33% of study score)
