HEWISH, Barry Kent (1939-2026)

Barry Hewish was enrolled at Geelong College from 9 February 1950 to December 1956 after attending Point Lonsdale State School.

At the Preparatory School he was appointed a Prefect of Pegasus House and contributed to football and rowing at the College.


He graduated with a Diploma of Military Studies from the Royal Military College, Duntroon in 1960, and a Diploma of Business Administration (IBA) in 1977. The Pegasus of June 1961 reported his graduation from Duntroon:
'After graduating from Duntroon Royal Australian Military College, where he specialised in Ordnance, Barry Hewish (1953) was appointed to Bandiana.'

Ad Astra of September 1967 reported:
'Captain Barry Hewish (1953) is second in charge, 28th Commonwealth Ordnance Field Park, Malaysia.'

In 1978, Barry was awarded a National Medal, recognising 15 years of diligent service by members of the Australian Defence Force.

He has been a long standing member of the Legacy Club of Canberra.

Barry passed away 7 February 2026.
