CAITHNESS, Roderick Lindsay (1936-2025)

Rod boarded at the College from 1947-1951, starting in Form MIV at the Preparatory School.  His younger brother David (OGC 1954) joined him at the College in 1949. From starting at school, Rod was a high achiever in the class including sports. In 1948 he won the U12 athletics championship and a year later and won the Preparatory School athletics championship for his age group and overall. That same year, he was appointed Preparatory School prefect.  Rod athletics prowess continued in 1950 when he won the U14 athletics championship (ER Sparrow Cup) and joined the athletics team.

Following school Rod worked as a mechanic in Horsham for a time before joining the Alton Petrochemical Company, where he worked for 32 years. He also served on the Ballan Shire Council.

He married Beverley and they have three children. 

When he retired, Rod pursued golfing, becoming a champion golfer, respected coach and mentor.  He served as President of the Ballan Golf Club and coached juniors and adults.  His dedication and service to the sport of golf have been recognised by the Ballan, Apollo Bay and Kooringal Golf Clubs.

Rod passed away 30 July 2025, aged 88 years.
