MORRISON CUP

Morrison Cup

The Morrison Cup is an annual Australian Rules football fixture contested between Scotch College and The Geelong College, inaugurated on 23 May 2026. Established to recognise the historical connection between the two schools, the Cup honours the legacy of the Morrison brothers, whose leadership helped shape education in colonial Victoria.

In 1857, Alexander Morrison became Principal of Scotch College, where he strengthened the School’s academic and moral culture. Four years later, his brother George Morrison was appointed founding Principal of The Geelong College, guiding the new institution in its formative years and establishing a strong tradition of scholarship and community life. Together, the brothers shared a belief that education should develop character as well as intellect.

The two schools first met on the football field in 1868. The establishment of the Morrison Cup provides a formal recognition of this long-standing relationship, linking a historic sporting rivalry with a shared educational heritage.

Beyond competition, the Cup reflects values of teamwork, discipline, resilience and respect, while strengthening the enduring connection of shared histories and traditions between both school communities.
