John Turriff “Chip” Cameron was born 27 January 1929 in Swan Hill to John and Norma. Coming from Manangatang in north-west Victoria, in 1941 he was enrolled at Geelong College in Form IA as a boarder.

John enjoyed his time at the College, being a keen sportsman and achieving second in his class in Form IIA. He was a member of the Tennis Committee and served as their secretary in 1945. He went on to win the tennis open doubles and singles that year. Despite being a smaller player, he was Vice Captain of the 2nd XVIII football team 1945, noted as their best player “who did a reliable job throughout every game.”

In his final year, he would also serve as the Warrinn House Captain, was a member of the Cricket Committee and 1st Cricket team, and receive House and School Colours for Cricket. John was also a sub-editor of the Pegasus Magazine in 1945.

Following his time at the College, John married Beverley in 1954 at Glen Huntly. By 1963 the family had moved to Longueville, Sydney. Around 1969 John was appointed finance manager of Associated Products and Distribution Pty. Ltd.

John remained in Sydney, regularly attending the Sydney reunions. He was also a long time council member of the Sydney Refugee Action Committee.

John passed away 27 February 2020, in Sydney, aged 91 years.
