CARTER, Richard Colin (1976-2011)


Since early 2009, Richard Carter had been a Senior Venue Technology Manager for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Richard was born at Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. He went to Mercia Primary School, Highton before becoming a student at the College from 1988 to 1993.

Richard graduated in Information Technology at the University of Ballarat. He later became IT&T Manager for the Department of Human Services (DHS) – Barwon and Southwest Region until 2005. He worked in IT Project Management and participated in developing the computer system for the Department of Justice (Courts). More recently, he specialized in events management becoming Venue Technology Manager for the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, the Doha (Qatar) 2006 Asian Games, and the APEC round in Australia in 2007. He volunteered in the same role for the Melbourne Homeless Games. Richard died 22 June 2011 in London at age 35 following a sudden illness.
