COTTON, Collins Mountford (1914-1955)


Collins Mountford Cotton, journalist and war correspondent, died at Geelong on July 10, aged 40 years. He was the son of Henry Ernest Mountford Cotton and Alice May nee Collins and first attended Miss Cathcart’s School before attending College from 1924 to 1932 where he represented his School in the Athletics Team in 1928, 1928, 1930 and 1932.

He served his cadetship in journalism with the Geelong Advertiser and later joined the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) news staff. He was accredited for the Commission as a war correspondent and for seven years from about 1948 was chief of staff of the Victorian news department. His brother, Ernest Lewis Cotton (1917-2008), son, Garry Mountford Cotton (1945-2006), and several grand children also attended the College.
