DENNIS, Michael Vinicombe Syme (1932-2016)
Michael Dennis, grazier of ‘Truro’, Deaton, Glenmaggie was a boarder at Geelong College from 10 February 1944. He had previously been a student at Nambrok State School and his residential address at enrolment at College was ‘Ilwong’, Nambrok, Victoria. He left College in December 1951. He was a member of the 1st Football Team 1949-1951, and the Relay Team 1948-1951. He also performed many of the 'Glee Club' Gilbert and Sullivan operettas including; in the chorus of Princess Ida of 1945; the chorus of HMS Pinafore in 1946; the chorus of Pirates of Penzance, in 1947; the 'Chorus of Japanese Nobles' in The Mikado of 1949; and the 'Chorus of Citizens' in The Yeoman of the Guard in 1950.
He died at Laurina Lodge, Heyfield, age 83.
His father, Cyril James Dennis (1888-1955) OGC 1903-1906; brother, John Tregurtha Syme Dennis (1927-1975); and sons, Richard and James were all educated at College
