Max was born to Robert and Islay Eastwood in 1933. Coming from Terang, he was enrolled as a boarder at the college in 1948, following his brother Bruce OGC 1941 who had attended 1944-1946. Max started boarding at Mackie House but moved to Warrinn.

In 1949 Max came third in his class, Form IVB. In his final year, 1950, he was a member of the House of Guilds Council, supervising photography.

This interest in photography grew to a life long passion and career. After working in a technical role for some years, in 1965 he became a partner in one of Geelong’s most well-known photographic businesses, Robert Pockley Studio. In 1969 he became sole proprietor of the business and continued to capture the images of the Geelong during this period. In about mid 1996, Max retired from the business. From school photos, including The Geelong College, to aerial views, Max contributed to the photographic record of Geelong and surrounds.

Max married Marie Tepper in 1961. He was also involved with the Geelong Rotary Club for many years.

Max passed away 7 August 2021, aged 88 years.
