GODFREY, Herbert (1874-1947)

Herbert Godfrey, born on 9 February 1874, was enrolled at Geelong College on 12 February 1889. He was enrolled by Messrs Godfrey and Bullen and an address at entry was given as 23 Collins St West, Melbourne. This may be the address of his father's law firm in Melbourne.
At College he became a member of the 1st Football Team of 1889 and the 1st Cricket XI of 1889.

Pegasus noted his death in 1947:
'Herbert Charles Godfrey, who died early this year, was a member of the College first cricket and football teams in 1889. He later attended Scotch College before proceeding to the University of Melbourne, where he took the B.A. and LL.B. degrees. As a member of the firm of Godfrey & Godfrey, he was for 40 years honorary solicitor to the Melbourne Hospital. By his will he has endowed a bursary to assist a College boy going up to the University.'

His death registration apparently cites a middle name 'Cecil'. No middle name was listed in his enrolment record.
