Barry Henderson (Football 1952).
Barry Henderson attended Hampton State School before entering Geelong College as a day student from 18 September 1945 to December 1952. His address at the time of enrolment was 41 Retreat Rd, Bareena (Newtown).
At College, Barry was awarded the 'Fen and Roy Pillow Bursary' in 1951, the 'Dr Gus Kearney Memorial Prize' and the 'W H Hill Memorial Cricket Trophy' in 1952. He was a member of the 1st Cricket Team in 1951 and 1952, the 1st Football Team in 1950, 1951 and its Captain in 1952. In 1952, in partnership with Bob Merriman, he won the Boys Open Doubles Championship becoming holder of the 'F W Rolland Cup' for the year. He was a corporal in the College Cadets in 1951, and Morrison House Vice-Captain and School Prefect in 1952. He participated in several of the sports and activity committees including football, and cricket, and as secretary of the tennis committee in 1951.
After leaving College, he went to Melbourne University and Ormond College, graduating with a BComm and representing Ormond in Tennis, Cricket and Football. He returned to Geelong to manage his father's business, 'Vogue Shoes' which together they expanded from the single store to a chain of thirteen. He then became a cattle breeder, specializing in Poll Herefords, with which he won awards, twice at the Sydney Royal Show, and many at other Regional Shows.
Barry died on 15 November 2017.
His sons, Cameron and Richard, and daughter, Belinda were also educated at Geelong College.
