HYLAND, Christopher Rawson Penfold (1907-1926)
Christopher Hyland was born in South Australia on 30 July 1907 to parents Herbert Leslie Penfold Hyland and Edith Mary Miller Hyland, and became a boarder at Geelong College from 16 September 1925 to May 1926. He had previously attended school at Rostrevor, South Australia. His address at enrolment was Penfold Rd, Magill.
His death was announced in Pegasus:in August 1926: ‘A gloom was cast over the school by the news of the death in Adelaide of C. R. P. Hyland, who was knocked down and killed by a motor car on July 23rd. Entering the school in 1925, he left only at the end of last term. The sudden death of one who was so recently among us profoundly affected the school. He made many friends while he was with us, and the sympathy of the school goes out to his family in their sudden bereavement.’
His brother, Jeffrey Penfold Hyland (1911-1990), was also educated at Geelong College.
