KELSO, Dr Alexander Malcolm (1926-1992)
Dr Alexander Malcolm Kelso, known as ‘Sandy’, was a highly respected consultant Gynaecologist in Geelong, and an active sportsman in tennis, golf and yachting. He competed in ten Sydney to Hobart races in his maxi yacht, Helsall II, which finished third in 1988. Sandy attended the College from 1940 to 1943. He was the son of Alexander Edward Kelso, a former Scotch College student, and Norma nee Lobb and had attended Mont Albert Central School in Melbourne before boarding at the College. He was a member of both the 1st Cricket XI and Athletics Team in 1942 and 1943, and the Relay Team in 1941 and 1942. In 1943, he was a School Prefect, winner of the Geelong College Cup, an outstanding bowler in cricket, a good swimmer and tennis player and a member of the Glee Club.
He left the College $50,000 in his will. This significant bequest greatly assisted the educational development of the College. He always took an active interest in what was happening at the College and his two sons, Hugh and Richard also attended the school. He was survived by his third wife, Joan.
