LAIDLAW, Stuart (1957-1970)

Stuart Laidlaw.

Stuart Laidlaw.

Stuart, the son of Charles Sutherland Laidlaw and Patricia Maud nee Purvis of ‘Gnarpur’, Lismore was a popular boarder at Rolland House during his time at the School from 1969 to 1970.

Tragically, he was killed in motor accident on 28 March, 1970. He was described in Pegasus as ‘an active and thoughtful boy, he made friends amongst the the staff and boys, establishing himself as a capable student within the classroom as well as actively enjoying the outdoor activities. He was reliable and responsible, and during his short time in Second Form had begun to show talent with his swimming and his class work.’

The Stuart Laidlaw Swimming Pool was funded and donated to the Preparatory School in 1970 by his parents as a memorial to Stuart. His brother, Andrew Sutherland Laidlaw (OGC 1974-1979) was also a student at the School.
