MACKINTOSH, Alexander Ernest (1895-1969)
Born on 16 November 1895, Alexander Mackintosh was the son of John Mackintosh and Blanche Ernestine nee Gouget.
Educated at Thyra State School and Geelong College where he was enrolled as a boarder on 24 July 1911. He left on 4 July 1912. His address at entry was 'Kinrara', Thyra Rd via Moama, NSW.
He was an active member of the Thyra Civilian Rifle Club before he enlisted (No 1911) in the AIF on 23 July 1915, embarking from Sydney as a Trooper with the rank of Private for Egypt with the 13th Reinforcements on HMAT Runic on 20 January 1916. He was posted to C Squadron 4th Light Horse on 20 March 1916, then attached to 11th Light Horse on 6 September 1917 for training as Brigade Scouts at Kazar. Places such as Tripoli, Fukhari, Heliopolis, Tel el Fara, El Kula and Damanhour appear on his records.
He returned to Australia, embarking at Kantara on HMT Essex on 15 June 1919.
