MADDEN, George Baker (1895-1982)


George Baker Madden was born 8 January 1895, the son of George Madden and Sarah nee Baker. He was enrolled at Geelong College in 1906 and left in 1908. His entry address was Batesford. In 1906 he was awarded 2nd prize in Arithmetic in the Lower 4th Form.

During World War I, he enlisted (No 50450) with the 8th Light Horse, Australian Imperial Force (AIF) on 1 February 1918 and embarked with 1st Victorian General Service Reinforcements for Egypt on HMAT A14 Wiltshire on 10 June 1918. He served as Trooper George Madden with A Squadron from 4 September 1918. George Madden returned to Australia, embarking on 3 July 1919 on HMT Malta.

His father, George Madden (1863-1947), brother, John Robert Madden (1902-1983), and three sons were educated at Geelong College
