MCCLELLAND, Allan Frederick (1942-2007)

MCCLELLAND, Allan Frederick (1942-2007)

Allan Frederick McClelland was born 1 April 1942 at the Bush Nursing Hospital to Thomas Robert and Thirza McClelland of Sea Lake, Victoria. A son of an old collegian, Allan started boarding at Geelong College in Form IV, 1958.

Allan had a relatively quiet first year, a team member of the 2nd XVIII Football team and 5th VIII rowing crew. However, in 1959 Allan was part of the 1st VIII rowing crew which won that years Head of the River, and also played again in the 2nd XVIII football team. 1960, his final year at College, would be an even bigger. Off the sporting fields, Allan was Warrinn House monitor and prefect, and served on the PFA committee. He was also vice-captain of McArthur House, Cadet Under Officer and part of the cadet’s rifle team. Back to sport, Allan was again on the part of the Geelong College’s 1st VIII Head of the River winning crew, and served on the rowing committee. He received that year football school and house colours, and rowing school and house colours.

After school, Allan returned to his family’s farming poverty at Sea lake. He married Laurice, a teacher, and they had a son, Andrew. His brothers Thomas and Andrew also attended Geelong College.

Allan passed away 10 March 2007, aged 64 years.
