MCCONNAN, Willis Alexander 'Lex' (1931-2019)

Willis Alexander ‘Lex’ McConnan was born in 1931 to Edgar and Rae McConnan, Hamilton. He arrived at Geelong College as a boarder in 1944 starting in Form IIA. At school, Lex excelled on the track, featuring on the Athletics Team in 1945, and Relay Team in 1946. He also placed in many athletics events. Lex also makes special mention in the House of Guilds report June 1945: along with Sweetnam, he diligently weeded and watered the vegetable garden ‘every spare minute’ he had. Lex also received at Merit Prize in 1946 and left after completing Form VIE and the intermediate certificate.
After school Lex followed in his father’s footsteps, working as a bank officer in Victoria for many years. He later moved to Townsville.
Lex passed away 29 July 2019 in Townsville aged 88.
