MOORS, Norman Lyster (1895-1966)


Norman Lyster Moors was born on the 3 May 1895, the son of Henry Erskine Moors and Alice Dickins nee Perkins.

He was enrolled at Geelong College in 1909 by H E Moors of Belmont, Geelong.

Before World War I, he was employed as a Bank Clerk. During World War I, he served in 58 Infantry Battalion (Militia) before he enlisted (No 2612) in 59 Battalion (6th Reinforcement Group) AIF on 14 June 1916. He embarked for France on HMAT A71 Nestor on 2 October 1916, where he transferred to 5th Division Signalling Company, and was engaged as a Sapper on telephone and cable work. Wounded in action at Morlancourt by a gunshot wound to the left ankle on 13 May 1918, he was invalided to Northampton War Hospital, England.

Norman Moors returned to Australia by HMT Nevasa, embarking on 5 March 1919.

His brothers, Arthur Henry Moors (1886-1958) and Lennel Donald Moors (1900-1979) were also educated at Geelong College.
