MORGAN, Norman Alexander Park (1900-1988)


Norman Alexander Park Morgan was born at Nagambie, Victoria on 5 April 1900. He was enrolled at Geelong College as a day student on 29 June 1914 after having previously attended Flinders State School. His address at enrolment at College was 99 Skene St, Geelong. He was in the School Cadets for four years.

Norman was the son of William Morgan (1868-1941) and Sarah Isabel nee Park (1874-1950) who married in 1899. He married Agnes Rose Martin (1895- ), daughter of Michael Martin and Margaret nee Moroney of Mitcham Rd, Mitcham in 1941. He had two brothers, Roy 'Gavin' Morgan (1911- ) and Clive Leonard Morgan (1915-1982).

During World War I, and a little over a month after his eighteenth birthday, he enlisted (No 72220) on 17 May 1918. A note on his attestation record states that he passed the Riding Test for the Light Horse at Broadmeadows and had volunteered for service in Egypt. His occupation was listed as Wool Expert and he listed his address as that of his parents at 41 Pascoe Crescent, Essendon. His medical described him as dark complexion, 5ft 3in tall with brown eyes and hair.

He did not serve overseas and was discharged as a result of demobilization on 24 December 1918.

He is listed as 'Morgan, N A P' on the Geelong College World War I Memorial Tablet.

After his war service he became a wool classer and a grazier at Tabilk in northern Victoria. Norman died on 3 July 1988.
