MORRISON, William John (1871-1945)


William John Morrison was born at Lethbridge, the son of William Morrison and Elizabeth nee Hendra. He was enrolled at Geelong College on 12 February 1884. His address at the time was Leigh Road Post Office, Bannockburn.

During World War I, he was residing at Lindenow, Gippsland, when he enlisted (No 2531) 27 March 1916, aged 44, and embarked on 25 September 1916 on HMAT A9 Shropshire with 59 Battalion (5th Reinforcement Group). He later transferred to AMC Details, and was boarded ‘permanently unfit for General Service’ on 14 April 1917. He returned to Australia, embarking on H S Carpentaria on 8 August 1918.

He is named as 'Morrison, W J' on the Geelong College World War I Memorial Tablet.

At the time of his death he was recorded at Glenaladale, Lindenow in Gippsland.
