MURRAY, Edward Dickson (1875-1954)
Edward Dickson Muray was born in Geelong on 7 June 1875, the son of Thomas Forrest Murray and Esther nee Dickson.
He entered Geelong College as a day student in 1888, listing his address as Skene St Victoria. At College, he served for eighteen months in the Cadets, then with the Garrison Artillery, Geelong.
He was working as a Baker when he enlisted (No 4439) aged 39 years, in the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade, 6th Reinforcement Group, AIF on 8 March 1915, and embarked for Egypt on HMAT A35 Berrima on 28 June 1915. He arrived on Gallipoli on 21 August 1915, and served as a Gunner with 6th Battery. He later transferred to Heavy Battery late in October. He embarked for France on 22 March 1916, serving there until he was admitted to hospital on 5 July 1916, before being evacuated to England on HS St David from Boulogne on 7 July 1916. Edward Murray returned to Australia on HS Kanowna, embarking on 9 September 1916. He was discharged for medical reasons suffering melancholia and neurasthenia on 29 November, 1916.
Edward Murray died at Heidelberg on 22 July 1954.
