MURRAY, Thomas Peter (1895-1925)


Thomas Peter Murray was born on 18 June 1895, the son of Robert Stuart Murray and Marion Mary nee Manifold.

He entered Geelong College as a boarder in 1908, leaving in 1913. His address at enrolment was listed as 'Wool Wool', Colac. He played in the 1st Football XVIII in 1912, and was stroke of the 1st Rowing VIII in 1913.

The Pegasus of December 1918 reported of his promotion in England:
'Tom Murray has been promoted to Second Lieutenant. In a letter received last month he says he spent eight months in England gaining his commission, and had a great time. He had seen several Old Boys. Les Reid was still in England, and very well. After he gained his lieutenancy Tom went over to France with a siege battery.'

He died, age 30 years, on 31 October 1925 in Berwickshire, Scotland.

His brother, Archibald Stuart Murray (1891-1929), was also educated at Geelong College.
