MacPHERSON, Donald Ogilvy (1930-2014)


Donald MacPherson was born on 3 July 1930 and entered the College as a boarder from 8 February, 1945 to December, 1947, having previously attended Wagga Wagga High School. After leaving College he studied engineering at Melbourne University but returned to the family property ‘Glenmoira’ near Harefield, NSW without graduating. In 1954 he left Australia to travel extensively overseas. Following his return to the family property he married in 1960 but then sold ‘Glenmoira’ two years later in early 1962 to move to Melbourne to work in sales and marketing.

‘Don’ subsequently joined the National Mutual Group with whom he worked for 24 years before establishing his own investment consultancy business. In 1995, he sold this business to ‘retire’ and move from Brighton back to Wagga Wagga but soon found himself in small business again. Near the age of 70 he once more ‘retired’. A keen tennis player at College he reached the semi-finals in the Victorian Junior Titles after he left school. He died, age 84, at Wagga Wagga on 27 July 2014.
