McDONALD, Albert Fisher, (1900-1966)


Albert Fisher MacDonald was born at Goulburn on 26 December 1900, the son of William James Daley McDonald and Winifred Jessie nee Fisher of Rushcutters’ Bay, Sydney, He was educated at Marrickville S.S. and enrolled as a boarder at Geelong College on 28 August 1913. He left in May 1915. His address at entry was 11 Mary St, St Kilda.

During World War I, he was working as a clerk when he enlisted (No 6832) in the AIF on 19 April 1917. He embarked on 16th July 1917 on HMAT A16 Port Melbourne with 19th Infantry Battalion (20th Reinforcement Group) serving at the rank of Private. In England he transferred to Australian Army Pay Corps. He took leave in England in mid-September 1917, and also to Paris late in March 1918. Albert MacDonald returned to Australia on HT Port Lyttleton, embarking 20 September 1919.

He died in Los Angeles, California on 23 May 1966.
