McKINDLAY, James Rowland (1898-1980)
Born on 21 August 1898 at Echuca, James Rowland McKindlay was the son of Neil Clark McKindlay and Agnes Edmund nee Anderson, of Ivanhoe, Womboota via Moama, NSW.
After attending Wamboota State School he was enrolled as a boarder at Geelong College in February 1912, leaving in December 1914. He was a member of the College 1st Cricket XI in 1914.
During World War I, he was farming when he enlisted (No 52860) in the AIF on 25 February 1918 joining the 4th Light Horse (31st General Service Reinforcements) and embarking for France on RMS Ormonde on 7 March 1918. He served in Egypt before returning to Australia, embarking on 15 June 1919.
His brother, William Donald Anderson McKindlay (1900-1990) was also educated at Geelong College.
