McRAE, John Kenneth Forbes (1893-1955)


John Kenneth Forbes McRae was born on the 18 September 1893, the son of Alexander McRae and Catherine nee McDonald. He was enrolled as a boarder at Geelong College in 1908 with an entry address listed of Eglintoune, Larpent, Victoria.

During World War I, he enlisted on 20 August 1914 as a Trooper with the 4th Australian Light Horse (A Squadron). He married Beatrice Margaret Richards, daughter of William Henry and Elizabeth Richards, before he embarked on HMAT Wiltshire on 18 October 1914 for Egypt and Gallipoli. Wounded in action on Gallipoli, he afterwards transferred to the Australian Army Ordnance Corps.

He returned to Australia embarking on 15 November 1918.

John McRae died on 3 May 1955.

His brother, Alexander Keith McRae (1904-1951) was also educated at Geelong College.
