NICHOLSON, Leonard Ward (1894-1970)
Leonard Ward Nicholson was born 12 February 1894, the son of William Alfred Nicholson and Harriett nee Chamberlain, of Waurn Ponds. He entered Geelong College as a day student in 1909, and left in 1910. His address at entry was Highton.
During World War I, he enlisted (No 178) in the AIF as a Private on 20 April 1915, and embarked for Egypt on RMS Mooltan on 14 May to No 1 Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis. He returned to Australia on duty on HT Hororata on 1 September 1915. He then embarked for France, arriving in Marseilles on 6 April 1916, and served there with 5 Battalion (Army Medical Corps Detail) until he returned to Australia, embarking on HT Gaika on 12 May 1918.
Leonard Nicholson died on 1 December 1970 at Heidelberg, Victoria, aged 76 years.
His brother, Roy Nicholson (1892-1976) was also educated at Geelong College.
