PARRINGTON, Thomas Whinfield (1892-1974)


Thomas Whenfield Parrington was born in Warrnambool on the 6 December 1892, the son of Henry Roberts Parrington and May Louisa nee Corrigan.

He was enrolled as a boarder by Mrs H R Harrington at Geelong College in 1907 with an entry address of 65 Park Street, South Yarra.

During World War I, he enlisted (No 5387) in the AIF on 8 June 1915, and embarked on HMAT A67 Orsova on 14 July 1915 as a Private with the Australian Army Medical Corps (AAMC) Reinforcements. He served with 1st Field Ambulance in France from 30 August 1916, and was transferred as an Australian Medical Corps Orderly to 1st Field Artillery Brigade on 10 October. He was promoted to Corporal on 6 June 1917 and Sergeant on 21 February 1918, before a final posting to AIF Headquarters London on 13 June 1918. He returned to Australia, embarking on 20 November 1918, and was demobilised on 20 February 1919.
