PARTRIDGE, Elsden Lawrence (1934-1999)
Commercial Airline Pilot and Instructor, Elsden Lawrence Partridge, assisted in the development of aviation particularly in new Guinea.
He was born on 18 June 1934, the son of H Partridge.
He attended Chilwell State School prior to enrolment as a day student at Geelong College on 10 February 1944. He left left in December 1952. His address at entry was 22 Cairns Ave, Bareena (Newtown). At College, he was Captain of the Under 16 B Football Team in 1950, a member of the 3rd Football XVIII in 1952, and a Corporal in the Cadet Corps of 1950. He rowed in the 5th VIII in 1950, 3rd VIII in 1951 and the 1st VIII in 1952.
After leaving College he became an airline pilot. In 1992, he reported that he had spent 28 years flying with Trans Australia Airlines (TAA), and twelve years of that in New Guinea and had assisted in formation of their national airline. He later transferred to Cathay Pacific, instructing on Lockheed L1011 and Boeing 747 (400) aircraft, and was based in Hong Kong.
He coached rowing at The Southport School, Qld for 12 years.
He died on 15 January 1999 and was interred at Allambe Memorial Park Cemetery, Carrara, Queensland.
His second wife, Vivienne, donated several items to the College including photograhs of the 1st Rowing VIII of 1952.
