Doug Aiton (Prefect 1961)

Doug Aiton, journalist, broadcaster and writer has, over a long career, contributed to a variety of newspapers, television and radio including the Melbourne Herald, The Age, the London Times and the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC). Most recently he has been the drive program broadcaster on Geelong’s ‘Pulse’ radio station and a writer for the Geelong Advertiser. He was also Chief of Staff of the ill-fated Newsday newspaper in Melbourne.

Doug was a student at Geelong College from 1950 to 1961. In his final years he was a member of the Swimming Team from 1959 to 1961 and its Captain in 1961, and a member of the Athletics Team in 1960 and 1961. He was a School Prefect and Day House Captain in 1961, a sergeant in the College Cadet Corps and a member of the Rifle Team in 1960 and 1961. His membership of College Committees covered a diversity of activity and included the Athletics, Debating, Music, Pegasus and Swimming Committees.
