Lancelot was the rowing master at College from at least 1909 to 1914 and probably earlier. He had been previously an Assistant Master at Geelong Grammar School from October 1893 to 1896 after which he became a master, with his brother, at St Peter's College, Adelaide before returning to Geelong.
After leaving College he became an insurance agent and lived in East Malvern. His brother, William Edward Piercy Austin (1860-1930) had emigrated to Australia in 1885 and also taught at Geelong Grammar and other notable schools including at Wesley College, Melbourne Grammar, in Tasmania and New Zealand and as Principal of St Paul's Cathedral Choir School.
Lanelot was the sixth of eight children born to the Rev William George Gardiner Austin MA (1835-1904) and Mary Emily Gray nee Smyth (-1921) and is believed to have been born in British Guiana on 30 April 1871. He married Alice Elizabeth nee Bradley (-1950) in December 1901. Two children were born; Robert Lancelot Peircy Austin (1904-1938) and Elizabeth Mary Gray Austin. Lancelot died on 9 June 1938.
