BELL, Andrew David


Born on 23 September 1948 at Camperdown, the son of David Carstairs Bell and Barbara (nee Matheson), of Camperdown, he boarded at Geelong College from 11 February 1960 to November 1966 having previously attended Camperdown State School. His address at enrolment was 'Wanganuk', Camperdown. At College he was a member of the 1st Football XVIII in 1965 and 1966, (Captain 1966), and the 1st Cricket XI in 1965 and 1966. He was a member of the Cricket and Football Committees in 1966.

He was called up (No. 3796579) for National Service and served in South Vietnam with 7 Battalion RAR. He embarked for that country on 16 February 1970 and returned to Australia on 4 March 1971.

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs lists him with Vietnam Service (National Service) as a Private with the Royal Australian Infantry Corps from 16 February 1970 to 4 March 1971.

His grandfather, William Maxwell Bell (1873-1951), OGC, served as a Lieutenant in France with 12 Field Artillery Battery (FAB) in World War I, and his father, David Carstairs Bell, (OGC) served in the Middle East with the 2/3rd Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, where he was Mentioned in Despatches.
