BERRY, Randal Avis (1892-1941)
Born 20 August 1892, the son of Howard Wesley Berry and Georgina Louisa nee Wimble, at the time of enrolment at Geelong College, of 182 George Street, East Melbourne. He was enrolled at Geelong College as a boarder from 1905 to 1908.
He was working as a station overseer when he enlisted (No 5678) on 24 February 1915 during World War I, and embarked for overseas on 20 March 1915 on
HMAT A9 Shropshire
with 300 (Mechanical Transport) ASC, 17 Divisional Supply Column (9 ASC) - 4 Reinforcements (March 1915), and then on
HMT Manitou
for the Dardanelles on 2 October. He served on the Gallipoli Peninsula, and then embarked on
HMT Tunisian
from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force. He was promoted Corporal on 30 July 1916, and took leave to England late in November 1917, and again late in December 1918. On his return to Australia he was discharged on 15 October 1919.
He died in Sydney, Australia in 1941.
