William was awarded the following prizes:
1873 1st, Arithmetic, 3rd Class.
1873 1st, Algebra, 1st Class.

The book containing award bookplates for both the Arithmetic and Algebra prizes won by William Berthon was donated to the College Archive in 2016.

His brother, Edward Berthon (1857-1938), was also educated at Geelong College.
