Don Carmichael was enrolled as a boarder at The Geelong College in 1945, beginning Form II. In his first year he won the AJ Wilson Cup and was the U15 boys athletics champion. To bookend his time at college, he also won the Geelong College Cup and Nigel Boyes Trophy in 1948, for Open Athletics Competition champion and aggregate winner of the open field games events. The Pegasus noted that this achievement "was most creditable in view of his absence through injury for the last two years from competitive sport."

Following school Don took night classes at the Gordon Institute and worked at Elders Smith & Co. as a wool valuer and auctioneer until 1956 when he entered the field of real estate. He joined RG Woodard in sales and in 1960 he became a director of the multi-office real estate firm Stockdale & Leggo until retirement.

From 1960 to 1980 Don was also a Director of JG Johnstone & Company Stock & Station Agency, located in Colac.

Outside of work Don was a keen golfer and was a member of Huntingdale, Barwon Heads and The National golf clubs. He was also continued to support the college and served as OGCA President from 1971-1972.

Don was married to Sally and they have three children, Iain OGC 1972, Heather and Julie.

Don passed away 14 June 2021, aged 90 years.
