CARMICHAEL, Robert Paul

Born on 5 October 1945 at Melbourne, the son of Colin Rhodes Carmichael (1929-1996), was enrolled at Geelong College from 11 February 1960 to December 1961 after having attended Buffalo State School. His address at entry was Buffalo, South Gippsland. He was on the College Library Committee in 1961, and a member of the Cadet Corps.

During the Vietnam War, he was called up for National Service and served (No. 3789095) in South Vietnam. He embarked for that country with 1st Australian Reinforcement Unit on 20 March 1967, then served with 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) from 28 April 1967 to 28 May 1967 and 2 Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) from 29 May 1967. He returned to Australia on 12 March 1968. The Department of Veterans’ Affairs lists him with Vietnam Service (National Service) as a Private with the Royal Australian Infantry Corps.

His father, Colin Rhodes Carmichael (1929-1996), and brother, Andrew Carmichael, were also educated at Geelong College.
