CARNIVALS, FESTIVALS, FETES and FAIRS
Over the years, a great number of large scale special purpose events and festivals have occurred at the College. These have included commemoration events such as those surrounding the School’s Jubilee in 1911, its Centenary in 1961 and the Federation Festival of 2000 which celebrated 100 years of Australian Federation. Other events have included the
Geography Exhibition
and
Man’s World
program of 1935; the
Living and Leisure
festival of 1949 and the
One World Tomorrow
Festival of 1950. These were designed to promote the educational profile of the School. The more unusual of these included the
Dog Show
of 1955.
Fund raising has, since the 1900s been critical to the School’s growth and the first fete day was set by Council for 10 March 1956 and it recorded that £3,302 was raised. The fete was held again in 1958 and these early fairs were to become the forerunners of the colourful and sophisticated Carnivals of the 1990s and onwards held on the Senior and Junior School campuses.
