DEANS, George William (1894-1972)


George William Deans was born on the 23 February 1894, the son of George Deans and Eliza nee Glanfield. He was enrolled at Geelong College in 1908. His address at the time was Gertrude Street, Geelong West. In 1908, he gained the following class awards: 2nd, English, 5th Form B; 1st, Geometry, Upper 4th Form.

He became a teacher.

He enlisted (No. 5351) as a Private with the 8th Battalion, 18th Reinforcement Group on 6 July 1915, but having suffered long term effects of ill-health as a youth (diptheria, measles and scarlet fever), he was discharged from the AIF on 7 July 1916 as medically unfit, without embarking for overseas.

He died at Brisbane on 19 June 1972, aged 78 years.
