FESTIVAL OF FEDERATION

The celebrations at Geelong College in 2001, was a four day, multifaceted event from 9 May to 12 May to celebrate four anniversaries. These were: the Federation of Australia in 1901; the Foundation of the School in 1861, the Establishment of the Old Collegians’ Association in 1901 and the eighty year anniversary of the Preparatory School.

Activities included an Art Show; a short film competition; a series of imaginative evening performances by students in six separate venues across the Senior School Campus; a Saturday sports pageant and a Black Tie Gala Dinner in Norman Morrison Memorial Hall. A finale to the year included participation by Year 9 and 10 Studio Arts students in the ‘ Federation Peoplescape’ project, creating a life size figure of former College Principal Sir Francis Rolland for display as an ’unsung hero’ in Canberra.
