GRIFFITHS, Robert Adam (1875-1947)


Robert Griffiths was born on 8 February 1875, a son of David Griffiths and Agnes, nee Robertson. He was enrolled at Geelong College in 1888. At the time of his enrolment his address was Pevensey St, Geelong. He left in 1890. His address at entry was listed as Pevensey St, Geelong. He was a member of the 1st Football Team in 1890.

He gained the following academic awards at Geelong College:
1888, 1st, Latin, 3rd Class.
1888, 2nd, Euclid, 4th Class.
1888, 1st, French, 3rd Class.
1888, 1st, Geography, 4th Class.
1890, 2nd,French, University Class.

In 1947 Pegasus provided a brief obituary of him:
Robert A. Griffiths died in a private hospital at Geelong on February 21 at the age of 71 years. He entered the College in 1888, and in addition to scholastic success he excelled at football and swimming; in 1890 he passed the matriculation examination and was in the XVIII. On leaving school he gained banking experience with the Mercantile Bank until it became defunct, then with the London Chartered Bank. For health reasons he transferred to farming and grazing pursuits in various parts of the Geelong district, finally settling at Lovely Banks.
