Nick Heffernan, Olympic fencer followed his chosen sport at Geelong College to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Early success in this sport was to take 'Nick' Heffernan to the international stage in a series of Australian epee teams, and, most notably, to win the Australian national epee title in 1999. At the 2000 Sydney OLYMPIC GAMES the Australian Team, including 'Nick', were narrowly defeated in the quarter finals by the eventual gold medallists, Italy. In 2002, he won two gold medals at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Newcastle and was Captain of the gold medal winning Men’s Epee Team. Also in 2002, he represented Australia at the World Championships in Lisbon.

'Nick' was educated at the Geelong College Preparatory School from 1980 to 1987 where he was a member of Pegasus House. He later graduated in Applied Science from Ballarat University and furthered his studies with a Diploma in Exercise Rehabilitation, later establishing a personal training business. His siblings Ann, Edward and Damien also attended the College.

'Nick' Heffernan was inducted into the Old Geelong Collegians' Association (OGCA) Notables Gallery at Geelong College in October 2014.
