JACOBS, Ivan David (1935-2021)

Ivan attended the College as from kindergarten to matriculation, 1939-1953. His father Harold had also attended the College (OGC 1905-). When he entered the Senior School, Ivan joined the cadets and Exploration Society. He was one of the group leaders when the Society hiked Anakie-Werribee Gorge in September 1950. The Pegasus (June 1953) also noted that drummer “L.Cpl. I. D. Jacobs make a great difference to the quality of the band’s playing.”

After leaving school, Ivan spent some time jackarooing at Mt Widderin Station, Skipton. He returned to Geelong and joined Dalgety & Co’s wool department. After completing his training, Ivan was appointed to Dalgety office in Ararat where he served as wool adviser for over 30 years. College friend John Fewtrell (OGC 1954) joined him at the Ararat office and they worked together for many years.

Ivan was involved in the local community, joining the CFA as a volunteer. He was also a player and official of the Lawn Bowls Association. He married Lynette Davis in 1970 and their son Ben attended the College (OGC 1990).

Ivan passed away 9 September 2021, aged 86 years.
