MACKIE TUNNEL

The 'Mackie Tunnel' is part of the enduring mythology of the School and has been a persistent and resilient story passed on among the students. The Tunnel is believed by many students to run between the Northern Wing of the School and Mackie House. The entrance is considered to have been variously associated with ‘Dungeon’ doors and trapdoors in the floor of Room ‘A’, the space beneath Room ‘B’ and the cellars beneath the George Morrison Building. The Air Raid trenches constructed in the Cow Paddock during World War II along the periphery of the present Mackie Oval were also associated with this belief.
