MCMASTER, James Gordon (1921-2024)

Gordon attended the College from 1932-1938. His father, Rev. James McMaster was the minister at St George’s Presbyterian Church as well as school chaplain. His brother Melville also attended the College (OGC 1936). Gordon was part of the rowing program and rowed in the 3rd and 2nd VIII crews. He was also the joint honorary secretary of the Debating Committee.

Following school, Gordon completed a Bachelor of Science. He then embarked on a career, working and teaching in metallurgical technology. In the 1950s he moved to Canada for a Research Engineer role with the Norton Company, Ontario. He returned to Australia in the 1960s, joining Alcoa at Point Henry, Geelong.

Gordon passed away 21 June 2024, aged 103 years.
