McKEON, Douglas Peter (1945-2019)

Born 4 October 1945 to Ernest (OGC 1935) and Lily McKeon, Douglas was enrolled as a day student in 1959. He had also attended the kindergarten (1950-1). His brothers also attend the College: John (OGC 1961), David (OGC 1964) and Malcolm (OGC 1965). A footballer, Douglas played in the 1st XVIII in 1961, as well as Geelong U19’s, the Geelong Amateur juniors. After College he went onto play in the local league at Drysdale Football Club. With a total of 180 games, he played in the premierships in 1966, 1969 and 1970 and won senior best and fairest in 1967. After retiring as a player in 1975, Doug served on the Drysdale Football Club’s committee, coached junior sides and was a long-term team manager for Bellarine League junior rep sides. For these services he was awarded life membership.

Father of four and grandfather of four, Douglas passed away 2 June 2019, aged 73.
