W O McPherson (Football 1914).

William Ogilvy McPherson was born on 20 April 1895, the son of Charles McPherson and Clara Adelaide nee Rickey.

He was educated at Newlyn State School and then boarded at Geelong College from February 1910 until December 1914. In 1914 he played football with the College 1st Football XVIII. His address at enrolment was 'Clora', Newlyn Railway Station.

He served with the Melbourne University Regiment and 71st Infantry Cadets before he enlisted (No. 7988) with 18th Company Australian Army Service Corps (AASC)on 23 August 1915. He embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A41 Bakara on 5 November 1915.

William served in France as a driver with 5 Division Train, and had leave in England in May 1917 and February 1918, as well as leave in Paris in November 1918. He returned to Australia on HMT Beltana, embarking on 2 June 1919.
